Start of Wind power in Holland
Windmills exists for over 2500 years already, in that period both the Chinese, Greeks and Persian have build mills. In 1594 Cornelis Corneliszoon invented a tool (the crankshaft) to use mills for sawing wood. It gave a boost to the economy and it is said that the Dutch "Zaanstreek" was the first industrial area ever worldwide! Due to this invention and the 900 mills that were build in the following years the Dutch East India Company (VOC) had the possibility to build as much wooden ships as they needed which led to what we know as the Golden Century. The Golden Century was driven by wind energy!
